Passing result of Javascript array to PHP

I don’t know if you query is more appropriate to php coding or javascript but here goes;

I have created a series of universal related popup menus in Javascript, which allows a webuser to specify what type of entry they want to search my database for. But i don’t know how to pass their specification to php so it can look up the database and return the relevant results.

Any comments, even if it is to clarify that this is a php query and not a javascript one, would be most gratefully received.
