sending session variables from one site to another

Hi – I’m wanting to send session variable from one site to another (when a user logs in to one, they automatically have permission to enter others). The only way I can think of doing this is by sending the variables in the URL, which the other site will GET. Obviously this is not secure, so can anyone tell me of a better way?
