modify zip or txt files ?

Hi,

I have quite a lot of zip files contaning txt files. I would like to extract the archive, modify the txt files (find and replace) and rezip the txt files. What would be the fastest way to do so ? Any experience with this ?

Well I have very little experience with the zip based functions within PHP but I could help with the text file based stuff once we figure out the zip stuff.

What kind of compressed files are they?

Do they have to be zip or would tar / gz do it?
