SEO and duplicate URLs

I have an old website using Mambo (older Joomla) which is setup such that the same articles have 2 URLs depending on which categories you use to get to the article.

This website is being ported to a wordpress blog format. I am using 301 redirects in the .htaccess file to redirect old links from the old site to the new one. There are numerous locations “out there” on the web that link to the old site and could be using either of the two URLs for any given article.

Should I use a 301 redirect on both of the old URLs or let one be a 404 error?

@MyWebsiteAdviseSep 25.2007 — Hi,

You should use a 301 redirect on both of the urls.

Search engines don't like to see 404 errors.
