Hello. I am having some trouble getting my website,Elephantastic.net to render special characters the same size in older browsers (IE 5.2.3) as it does in newer browsers (Firefox, Safari etc.). This is important because IE 5.2 was the last version of IE for the mac. All of my other css formatting is working and everything has been validated but the Multiplication sign I am using as a divider symbol in my footer is much larger in IE, causing an unwanted line break. any Ideas?
@KravvitzSep 20.2007 — #Umm... Fang, conditional comments are an IE5+/Win only feature. IE5/Mac doesn't support them. There are other ways to feed it special rules though.
Basin, Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st, 2005. Expecting it to display everything correctly is a bit unrealistic.
@felgallSep 20.2007 — #Microsoft declared IE on the Mac officially dead and buried in 2003. Browsers that are still officially supported for Macs running older operating systems are Opera 6 and iCab.
@BasinauthorSep 20.2007 — #Thanks for your help/thoughts. It displays correctly in all the "current" browsers so I guess when it comes down to it I am more than willing to screw whoever is idiotic enough to be using an outdated browser.
Oh and thanks for the Mac insult, it wouldn't be a proper thread without the requisite air of superiority from someone.
If you mean what Fang said, when he said "Mac" he really meant "IE/Mac".
No, I meant the Mac. It's use on the internet here is almost negligible.
