button pressing simulation

we have a client server system and our teacher asked us if it is feasible to throw events from the server to the client. is it feasible? for example, on the client side, from the browser, a button has been pressed. and a corresponding event must be thrown from the server. in the first place, is it possible to throw an event from the server to the client?

also how does one simulate events…
for example, how does one simulate the pressing of a keyboard button without actually pressing the keyboard in js
