A few big questions

Hello everyone.

I was wondering… Can PHP support custom passwords? And can someone customize something like a character of some sort or something and their computer remembers it? And also, do you guys know of anything that allows my users to logout and their changes remain the same until they login and change it again? I know… it sounds pretty complicated… But I’m pretty much working a business here!! If you guys can help me, it would mean a lot to me. Thanks!

@jasonahouleSep 03.2007 — No offense, but all of your questions are extremely vague and do not make any sense. If you want to get some help here then you are going to need to ask about a specific problem you are trying to solve.

1. What do you mean by custom password?

2. If you want the client computer to "remember" something then use cookies but you can only store a small amount of data.

3. In regards to logging in and out look at PHP sessions.

4. Tracking changes will need the use of either storing data in files or a database.

if you want to create a login system with usernames and passwords where the user can change his password, then that is easy to do with php and mysql. but you don't seem to know either so i can't say that it will be easy.

and what types of things do you want the users computer to remember? the mysql database can keep track of any account information.

Well, I was planning on the Computer remembering specific user preferences. For example: CGI stores certain data and allows you to customize that data. Like you said, keeping track of any account information is my main point in this post.

Yeah, cookies would be a big help, but you need to have the specific program that reads ASP to be able to program cookies. That's where I'm really searching.
