MySQL query descending by date

I’m making a CMS for my church, and I’m working on a form to allow them to update the “Upcoming Events” page…and my question is this: In what format should I have the date stored in the database, and when it comes time to display the information in the database how do I query the database to show the events in order descending by date?

@YelgnidrocAug 29.2007 — Have your date in either the date, datetime or timestamp format.

A query would go along the lines of select * from table order by date desc
