How to get text and image in one cell

I’m wondering how to get text to display ontop of an image in a table cell. Here is the code I have so far:

<img src=”images/home_13.jpg” width=”277″ height=”1228″ alt=””></td>

I’ve tried placing the text between the <td…> and </td> tags, but it just displaces the image rather than showing the text on top of it.

I suspect that's not tabular data and so it should be in a div, not a table cell.
