I’ve just been browsing through my web stats on Google’s Analytics thing.. I maintain about 10 or so reasonable traffic websites (ie around 250 vistitors per week per website), and this is pretty consistent with the usual fluctuations day to day, but rarely do I have less than 15 or so unique visitors per day, even over the course of the year.
However, over the last 3 days, there’s been an odd pattern with all the main websites, whereby all of them have suffered an almost straight downward slope from their usual level, down a pretty much straight line to just 1-3 unique visitors yesterday (Sunday 29th July).
I’ve just checked and I’m still listed on Google for those main websites, and checked the the type of traffic over these last 3 days in particular, which doesn’t really seem to have changed proportionally either (ie the percentages from referring sites, search engines, direct traffic..)
Many of these sites are hosted on different servers with different companies, so that shouldn’t have mattered either, even if one of them went down.
So over the weekend, have lots of people just been taking time off the web? Has there been some sort of major virus that’s shut down a lot of PCs? Anyone any other ideas? And has anyone else noticed a similar pattern in their web-stats over the last few days?
