child window not closing

I am trying to close a child window from javascript but it is not working.

var childWnd;

function openwin(theURL,winName,features)
{
childWnd=window.open(theURL,winName,features);
childWnd.moveTo(400,220);
}

function closeWindow(){
if (childWnd && childWnd.open && !childWnd.closed){
alert(‘closed’);
childWnd.close();
}
else
alert(‘not opened’);
}

@gil_davisJul 26.2007 — What is contained in "theURL"?

If it is a foreign domain, you will lose control of the window due to browser security rules. You will not be able to close the window. Sorry. ?
