How to do simple spam protection for form inputs?

I enclose image as I would like to do simple spam protection and prevent automated sign-ups in registration forms.

How to do it this simple Captcha? I enclose image

@stephan_gerlachJul 26.2007 — I am not sure how good this kind of spam protection is. I think it would be quite simple to get the 7 + 4 out of the html code and then actually calculate and post the result to your page.

I think spam protection using an image with characters and numbers is more secure. There is a really simple tutorial which is easy to follow at thie link.
