[RESOLVED] Shifty layout issues

Hey Guys,

I am in the process of making a website:

http://metropolesouthbeach.com/allie/

It is based on tables…For the home, amenities, rooms and about us page…the table is split into 2 columns.

But for the reservations and contact us page I had to merge the table together.

You can see when you click on those 2 pages that the site shifts a little. I tried to base the table on pixels rather than a percentage but that didn’t help. Is there something I can do to stop the shiftiness?

Thanks!!

Allie

@WebJoelJul 19.2007 — I haven't done TABLE much in a few years... so maybe this isn't helpful, -but there is a inline style that 'collapses' table border. It removes the default 'space' between cells or rows I think(??)

Something like <table style="border-collapse:#">

where "#" is one of either "collapse" or "separate" (not sure which one you might need).

Using this would have the appearance of two side-by-side 50%-width tables being exactly as wide as one 100%-width table.. (I think..) ?

@grimmylinaauthorJul 19.2007 — Didn't seem to work. Would it be better if I did the table in css or would I end up going crazy since I have never done a css table?

@WebJoelJul 19.2007 — I have looked at this several times and I do not see the problem you describe. ?

@grimmylinaauthorJul 19.2007 — Like if you click on the "reservations" page or the "contact us" page you can see that the page shifts a little to the left.

@CentauriJul 19.2007 — The only diffderence is that the length of the page invokes the side scrollber in the browser, which makes the browser viewport slightly narrower and therefore the centre of the page moves slightly. Thsi is normal browser behaviour, and depends on the user's window size - nothing you can do about that.

@grimmylinaauthorJul 20.2007 — Oh yeah!! You are right!! I was going crazy trying to figure that out!!

@WebJoelJul 20.2007 — I still do not see this, but yes, the scrollbar is about 20-pixels wide, and if a page width is 100%, that is 100% + 20px.

@grimmylinaauthorJul 20.2007 — Oh sorry, I fixed it earlier. The page looked like it was shifting because some had the scroll bar and others didn't.
