session timeout in php

I am trying to put up a session timeout facility that will log out a user if he/she is inactive after 30 minutes. My current login uses sessions to store user variables.

How is this done in php?

Thanks.

@NogDogJul 19.2007 — Set the session.cookie_lifetime configuration parameter to 1800 (seconds). You could do this on every page via the session_set_cookie_params() function before the session_start(), but it's probably more practical to either set it in your php.ini file if you have the necessary admin privilege, or else via a .htaccess file entry if you don't.
