Need help with JS Menu (total noob)

Hello, i’m trying to develop a website with the following basic format (ignore the periods):

Intro………………………….. Intro Text

[U]Heading1[/U]………………………blah blah blah blah blah
[U]Heading2[/U]
[U]Heading3[/U]

—basically, a menu on the left and a main text body on the right. However, when you click on a heading, some sub-menus show up, and the main text changes, like so:

[U]Intro[/U]………………………Heading 1
Heading1…………………sub heading1 text blah talk talk
…sub heading1
…[U]sub heading2[/U]
[U]Heading2[/U]
[U]Heading3[/U]

So it’s like going to another page, but it’s all in one html document. Additionally, it would be great if the items in the left-hand side menu were links in that the cursor is a hand and not the text-cursor.

I think there is a way to do this with div’s using the display:none style, but i don’t know how to do the javascript part. Also, keep in mind i’m a pretty big noob, so i don’t know all of the basic syntax, let alone advanced stuff, so the more explanation the better. I really appreciate it, thank you all!
