Index.html page tries to resolve to index.php

I have a new index.html page in a site that keeps trying to resolve to an index.php page. The site used to have a .php index page, but it has been changed. What would be causing this? I just took another html page and edited it. Then, uploaded it as index.html.

@ryanbutlerJun 12.2007 — Usually in this case, a php file will trump a(n) .html file. Remove the .php file and it should resolve correctly.

@Tweak4Jun 12.2007 — Depending on what server software is running, there is often a setting in the control panel that will allow you to specify a priority for various "default" files. If that is the case, you just need to verify that index.html is indeed in the list and that nothing that appears before it in the list exists in that same directory (or just move it to the top)

@JackAndrewsauthorJun 12.2007 — It was pointing html to php. Probably because we had previously used html on this site and had concerns about inbound links not resolving correctly. It's working. However, someone else wrote that html trumps php. Oh, well, it's OK so far. Thnks.
