"Reading ahead" for revolving news feed

I am trying to get a website to use a scrolling or rotating news feed on its home page. I can do the scrolling, but I had the idea to use a portion of the actual pages that I want people to go to (sort of a 30-50 word “teaser” for the actual article).
What I need to be able to do is to read the text out of the page to be previewed, display it in either a <div> or an <iframe> area, and then to rotate or move to the next article and do the same with it.
I am familiar with HTML, object-oriented programming (C++ and Java) and a little bit of javascript, but this problem is vexing me.
I appreciate any help anyone can give me with this.

@Tim_2authorMay 02.2007 — Yes I know that, but I need to do something different. I am attempting to put the text into an area that will not hold entire articles without causing the web page to become overly large, or having a scroll bar in the middle of the page. About 50 or so words max. will keep the size of the page right around where I need it to be.

@ray326May 03.2007 — Well if you're only doing it for one site and that site is well structured you have a chance at introspecting the page but if you're aggregating feeds I'd say you're screwed.
