Error returning in firefox but not ie

I keep getting this error in firefox but works perfect in i.e.

This is the code:

pass=document.getElementById(‘pass’).value;
[/code]

And here is the error:

[code]
document.getElementById(“pass”) has no properties
[/code]

Any help appreciated

From the code shown, all that can be said is that at the time that function call is made, there is no rendered element with its [B]ID[/B] attribute set to 'pass'.
