Mass page rewriting scripts?

I am working on a site with well over 2,000 individual pages. The problem is, is that all of the content from those pages, needs to be placed within the new template.

Rather than manually inserting the template into each individual page, is there a script out there that will do it all automatically?

Essentially, it will need to pull everything from the <body> element of every old page, insert it into the <div id=’centercontent’> element on the new page, and save it with the old file name. At the same time, it would need to change all link extentions pointing within the domain to .php (vs .htm*).

It seems plausible that one would exist, but writing one by myself is beyond my capabilities.

Thanks in advance!
