Your not refering to these spam ware tools that profess to speed up downloading are you? if you are, you should be enlightend to know that they only speed up the delivery of spam...
If you search for them, articles exist on these accelerators that prove that they are totally in effective at speeding up downloading.
is roughly what I use for download links. It will request the filer in a new window which should then default to a dialogue box when it finds the extention, eg. zip, wav, mp3 etc and the browser should take the appropriate action.
This one line of HTML will save you about 8 or 9 lines of js code.
