laptop vs. desktop

hello!

I am in the painful process of creating a VERY BASIC html website to offer our home for sale. I’m using a laptop on the road(i’m a trucker) which has a 15″ screen. Everything looks ok, but when my wife clicks the site on her big monitor at home things get off kilter. Is it possible to set my code up for all monitors to view what i see??

the addy is:

i’m using IE on windows xp home

any suggestions would be appreciated!

@James_L_Jul 31.2003 — Hey,

I only had a quick moment to view it right now, but what I would like to know is what happens when your wife views it from home. What exactly do you mean by "off kilter"?

Cheers!

p.s. I would turf the hello background sound from the page. Most people find silly little animated gifs, and especially start up sounds that they aren't expecting, VERY annoying! ?

@havikAug 01.2003 — Everything appeared ok, nothing out of the oridinary. If you're unhappy with the layout try one from these sites:

@James_L_Aug 01.2003 — Hey,

I just looked at it on my Mac in IE5.2.2 and it looks fine (though the Hello sound detracts from the site in my opinion).

Cheers!

@PeOfEoAug 03.2003 — It looks just fine to me, ie6 win xp 1024 by 786 resolution. As long as your design is fluid you have no need to worrie.

@Compguy_PeteAug 03.2003 — Rick,

PeOfEo is right... keeping your design fluid or flexible as others may call it is the best way to do your site.

What is happening is that as you’re looking at the site from different resolutions, you have the main image set to center on the page. So while it may be right above your text on your laptop at home with your wife it's not going to be right over the text anymore.

@rIcKsTeRauthorAug 03.2003 — You hit my problem exactly, Pete! However, I'm tooooo

much of a NEWBIE about "keeping your design fluid or flexible". I haven't a clue as to how to accomplish that. A little bit of direction would be GREATLY APPRECIATED when you have a spare moment!

Thanks for the reply,

Rick...

@PeOfEoAug 03.2003 — Contain your text and images within an element maybe. Such as a div. This is very over simplified but you might try

<div align="center">

<img src="yourimage"><br>

the text block here

</div>

@rIcKsTeRauthorAug 03.2003 — I'm familiar enough with <div align> to place images and text and I also know about tables and CSS, however I don't think that is my problem. I think it deals with the resolution, but that's out of my league. No big deal, I can live with it. Again thanks to you and ALL for the replies!
