@felgallMar 28.2007 — #Web hosting and domain name regisstration are two entirely different things.
To use particular hosting with a domain name you just need to set the nameservers for the domain name to point to the hosting. There is no need to change domain name registrar and even if you do you will still need to change the nameservers as well.
@BrendiauthorMar 28.2007 — #Then I wonder why the guy I spoke with at Cox told me that the reason my website wan't working even after I had FTP'd it to them that I'd need to transfer my Domain name fro Network Solutions over to them? First he said it wasn't working because I had to change Index.html to index.html (no capital i)..... I changed it...then he told me about the Domain Name thing. Now I'm lost..... where to go from here? Try calling Cox again????
@BrendiauthorMar 28.2007 — #According to Cox, the DNS doesn't HAVE to be transferred over to them from Network Solutions, but things go more smoothly if it is transferred. Otherwise, every time I want to make a change on the site, I'd have to go through Network Solutions each time. I was told there'd be no cost to transfer though...thank goodness.
@rootMar 28.2007 — #All you do is go to your "Control Panel" found when you loginto your Domain name provider and then using "Cloaking" or "URL Masking" depending what they call it, you have a window with your domain and the host appears in the browser window.
With Redirection, you are simply redirected to the host, all you then get is the host IP address where your domain exists.
Each to their own but for me this is eggs in one basket, hosting and domain with one provider, if you dont like your host or your host deletes your account for breaches, you lose your domain name, keeping then seperate is no issue and far better as you then can pick and chose who and move easily to other hosting companys.
