Window Status Bar

Hello, I’m having a bit of trouble with my window status bar codes. I have my web page set so that when someone passes their mouse over a link, the “window.status” code shows a certain text. However, when I actually click the link and hold my mouse button down, I can see the linking address for a second before I release the mouse button again. Is there any way to continue to hide the linking address? Thanks! ?

@felgallMar 17.2007 — Most browsers have security set to block web page access to the status bar to ensure that web addresses appear there correctly so that phishing sites can't mask their links. That you can hide it at all means that you don't have proper security installed on your computer.

@NogDogMar 18.2007 — Plus, if you're trying to hide the links, I'm not sure I want to visit your site anyway; as I can't think of any legitimate reason to hide them.

@tburtonauthorMar 18.2007 — Oh really, that's interesting...I've always had the link hidden just because it looks better, but I guess I'll find another way then. There actually is a good reason - I'm making a game website where a question is asked and there are four possible answers. If someone can read the link on the bottom, they will likely be able to tell which of the links is the correct answer because it will be different than the other three. Thanks for your replies though, I'll find another way. ?

@Tweak4Mar 21.2007 — If that is the case, you could simply set up a form that would pass their chosen answer to a single results page, which would then evaluate the answer and determine whether or not it is correct. Simple to set up, and no link-hiding goofyness.

@WebJoelMar 21.2007 — When I was taking college classes for InternetPublishing, in the 'javascripting' course for an assignment I did a little page that included a javascript that caused a 'scrolling message' to run from right-to-left on the visitor's status bar, wait a few seconds, disappear and then repeat again, endlessly. -Cute, interesting, thought I was being oh-so clever etc. Teacher pointed out that some people don't appreciate their browser's status bar being 'messed with', and furthermore, scripts that sends things to the status bar have the potential with some platforms and possibly those also taxed by insufficient/minimal RAM (both if which described my then-computer at the time), to cause a 'stack overload' (or something like that, ? I forget exactly what he said it was)... causing BSOD in some cases. *I* was having a LOT of problems at home with Windows_98 and the dreaded 'Blue Screen of Death' ("BSOD"), -so after I was graded for the assignment (got an "A" ? ), I promptly removed the javascript that probably was the cause of my W-98 lock-ups...
