Cascading and Inheritance ?

These 2 concepts aren’t clear to me. How do they differ? How are they the same?

I’ve read various online treatises and Holzschlag and Meyer on the subject but still have no clue sometimes where the particular selector declaration that controls a bit of my page comes from.

Can someone explain this to me or point me to a very clear explanation? I suspect that I might be writing more CSS (or HTML) than I need to because I don’t understand these concepts well enough.

That's the most definitive statement I've read about cascading and inheritance. I'll still have to read it several (dozen?) more times before I assimilate it, tho. Wonder why I didn't find this text up high in my google results?
