affiliate program script help

hello;
I am just starting to build a site (locally – not online yet) and am new to the idea of affiliate programs but would like to try them.

At the first site i went to it says to paste the following script into my webpage … but i don’t know where to paste it … yes, i’m a total noob at javascript (and html, and css, and and …) – sorry!!!

there is a 120×600 .gif image (banner) that i want to use for the link that is in it’s own div … i was going to set the banner up as either the background pic for the div or for the anchor – don’t know yet.

the relevant script is:
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://affiliate.suppliedlinkofaffiliateprogram.com/adlink.asp?affiliateid=1234567890“>
</script>

I changed the name of the site and the ‘id’ for my own comfortability.

meaning that i don't have to put in the [COLOR="Blue"]<a href="#">whatever text</a>[/COLOR]??

@burnjobauthorMar 04.2007 — hmmm ... i tried it that way ... the page takes forever to load (i do understand that it could have to do with the affiliated site)

and ... there's no apparent hoverstate when mousing over the image

this is what i had there in the html:
