highlight row

i’m trying to write a function that highlight its row, but i cannot use onchange event handler because it’s deprecated since xhtml.
How can i obtain the same result of the onchange event but using javascript attachevent or another event handler

PS: the table has different colours, so i want that when i click on a checkbox , it highlight its td background, but when it will be unticked all td classes have to remain as they are

Anyway, onclick or onmouseup works better on controls.
