php require file from parent directory

i have a folder admin/admin.php
in admin.php
i have put
<?php require( ‘../header.php’); ?>

header.php is in the parent folder

why does it not find the file?

Are you viewing admin.php directly, or is it included from another file?

@JosephschauthorFeb 14.2007 — I really dont know why it was not working before it is now but it seem i have it all wrong as the file in /admin/ is missing all files the header uses eg styles.css and button images. What is a good way to do this then?
