Quick chat system with images

im looking to create a quick chat system for people to use on my home page.

Im looking for it to be similar to what on [url]http://www.dontstayin.com/[/url]

if you go to that site and have a look at the left had side of the page you will see an area where people can quick chat, if you roll over the user’s name who posted a message it comes up with an image of them.

How can i set up something very similar to this?

im in the early stages of my site and so far ive set up the log-in system where they have uploaded their details and an image of themself
