Getting links too fast?

I know Google could ban sites for link building too fast – but does anyone know if this is for:

1) too many links to an individual URL or

2) too many links to different URLs within the same domain.

E.g. If I built links to www.example.com/page1.html and www.example.com/page2.html and www.example.com/page3.html would google combine these links under the www.kjb.com and consider them all going to the same place?

Basically – if I link build to various deep urls – can I have more links without Google considering me linking too fast?

@IntensityApr 12.2007 — If one domain receives too many links from several individual domains it could raise a flag. It also depends if the websites are related. If they are related I would personaly allow the linkage.

Always think withing these terms: Does the Linking Benefit my Visitors. If the Answer is Yes, than the likelyhood that you will get penalized has just dramatically been lowered.

@harry_smithApr 12.2007 — I think url doesn't affect linkbuilding, what can affect is the relevancy of the linking sites... i mean what pages you are link to and from.

If you get all links in very short period of time and are not co-related then you may be affected,

@SeanIMMay 05.2007 — Harry brought up a good point...also, consider this...if you do something press worthy and get picked up on a lot of news sites or in the blog world you can rack up a lot of backlinks (authentically) literally overnight...whereas if you are comment spamming or signature spamming, FFA garbage, etc those are a tad diff in quality.

As per Google it would ban the URL or ISP of the website if it gathers too many inbound links compared to the age of it's domain.Say if your website is just 6 months old and it has 40 pages and if each page has inbound links excess in comparison to it's age then the IP will be banned. One has to answer Google adequately the reason for building it's link.

Link building has many procedures. You either do directory submissions or forum/article postings to get the link for your signature, you try social book marking or link exchanges. With the last update for PR and backlinks that Google made in February it has made it clear that any link pages containing the term "link" or any alpha numeric characters such as 1.html in their url will not be crawled or cached. So for analysts,web-masters who are looking to have their backlinks increased through reciprocal links better don't upload your page/pages as links.html solely for the reason Google will not crawl it.

Rather something like partner or resource will be better.
