JavaScript and REMOTE web services/WSDL

Dear all,

I’m looking for clarity on an issue:

Is it possible to write plain client-side only JavaScript code that accesses a remote web service?

I’ve been googling all weekend. There are lots of articles about writing your own web service (e.g. with C#) together with JavaScript code – that will work because they’ll run on the same site.

That isn’t useful for me. I need to access external web services on external servers, and I want to do it all from client-side JavaScript.

Can JavaScript do that or does security prevent that?

Which JavaScript SOAP library do you recommend?
Thanks!
Ellers
