got Socket Server working on localhost, now where?

hi there,

I’m fairly new to Java but I’ve managed to get a Socket Server and Client running on my PC on localhost.
I’m just a little confused now about how I deploy it to the internet.
I’ll presumably need to get some hosting on a server that has Java installed? (Any recommendations? – something cheap ?)

Would the Socket Server run as a Servlet, or do I run it from the command prompt and just leave to run forever?
(If I can’t remote desktop in to the server, how would I start the socket server?)

thanks very much,

@agent_x91Jan 25.2007 — Personally, I just combine all my java server-side programs into a single multi-threaded server and host it on my own server machine on my LAN - you'd have to enquire with your host to find out how you'd run it on a remote server.
