mailing list -best practice

Hi all,
I am using mail() function to mail my members of my site…
the thing that i would like to consider is the huge number of members
I have more than 50,000 member. which mean will send email to 50,000 members at time and afraid that will affect the server.
What is the best practice when dealing in such situation?

@netbuddyJan 22.2007 — sort your members into domains, see how many domains that you have and try to contact the providers of those doamins to get a bulk mail transfer with them and they deliver all members mail in a similar way.

You alternative would be to send 1 email every 5-10 seconds depending on the target domains flood control, making repeated mailings to one domain can ear mark you as a spam merchant, so a random selection is what is needed here.

You can write a routine that basically runs forever which will negate the need for any cron stuff.

@LeeUJan 22.2007 — Dada Mail is an excellent, free mailing list manager. It can be set-up to send message every "X" seconds, in order to minimize the load on your server.

in a table called members.

there should be a query to the db that i have to change in a particular file.

@LeeUJan 22.2007 — It's possible to do quite a bit of customizing. You'll need to check the site for what you need. There are also forums there which are real good.
