internet explorer help

i posted this in the CSS forum, but wanted to get a larger range of opinions…

I created this website, http://www.earlyrain.com/jonathan on my Mac, and it works exactly how I want it in Safari. But, when I go to my mom’s PC with 2000 on it (internet explorer 6), the entire page is just images in order and doesn’t work at all (it even crashes IE if I try to scroll down). Then I can go into Firefox on her PC and the placement of everything works, but some of the pictures won’t show up. There’s a place for them, but I can’t see some of them.

so, I really need some help with the IE problem, seeing as I don’t have these problems on my computer…

also, I was having a problem validating it, so I had to get rid of the opacity. It is valid now, but is there a *valid* way to make something a little transparent?

thanks in advance!

@BonRougeJan 19.2007 — You need to remove the XML prologue from the top of your page and be aware that IE<7 does not support 'position:fixed;'.

Please do not double post, it's considered impolite. You could have your problem solved by the time someone finds the other thread where the answer wasn't posted, meaning that they spend their time on an already solved problem, instead of helping someone else who's still stuck.

This is a CSS issue, even though IE is in quirks mode because of the use of the XML prolog, it's perfectly possible to write CSS in such a way that IE 5 and 6 will render the page correctly.

Incidentally, you've closed your <img>'s and <br>'s as if the page is written in XHTML, but you have used an HTML transitional DOCTYPE.
