Javascript to Change Images

I’ve tried really hard to use Javascript to change 1 image and every single script I’ve tried will not work. All I need to do is have one image that’s defined by name or id or whatever’s neeeded such as <image name=”theImage” src=”image1.jpg” /> and then a script that will change it to a different image, say image2.jpg. No matter what I try I cannot get anything to work.
