switching to different hosting provider

I apologize in advanced if this is the wrong forum, but…

I’ve got a company website that’s been online for about 6 years and we are wanting to change hosting providers. We want to switch from a no name to 1 and 1. And according to 1 and 1, it takes around 72 hrs (I forgot exactly how long) to do the transfer. How will that effect our status with search engines? (For Example: Will it lower our page rank? Will Google or other search engines have to re-index our site to recognize us again etc…)

What you should do is keep your current website running and copy it's entire contents to the new server. Modify your domain to point to the new name server and wait the 72 hours. This will enable those dns servers that havnt updated these settings to still show your visitors the old website and those that have the new website. Once you are confident that they are all pointing to the new host (72 hours max) you can delete the old site.
