Hi,
I want to embed a video on my webpage with all controls i see on other webpages eg youtube. The html functions look too basic with just embed command.

How do I do this and is it better to use css, javascript or flash with it? (where are some good websites I should say)

@Corey_BryantDec 30.2006 — This Code and MP3s thread might offer a couple of variations.

Otherwise, converting it to Flash would be probably the best. I have used Flash Video Encoder and been very pleased with the results.

@yodasw16Dec 31.2006 — That's not something you will learn by asking how to do it on a forum. It is pretty complex to create a site like youtube. Putting your own videos on your own website is easy with flash, but making something where users upload a video in whatever format which is then converted to flash and displayed on another page would take pretty extensive knowledge that you aren't going to get by asking for it here; you'd need to learn all of the concepts behind it first and then if you have problems once you try to implement, people here could probably help.

@jagguyauthorDec 31.2006 — I have a php/mysql site put up already that handles images. It took a few 1000 lines of code.

I can upload stuff no problem but what is the done thing with video.

Are you supposed to display as is in an embed tag or convert to flash somehow or what?

I just want the current thinking on the idea any any good tutorials on the matter if possible.

thanks

@_Aerospace_Eng_Dec 31.2006 — You need to find a way in php to convert the uploaded videos to .flv format. Then using dynamic urls you will need to display them in a flash video player but from recent posts I don't think you have any idea how much work this is going to be. Since you could barely get simple videos working this isn't going to be walk in the park. You have a lot of learning ahead of you. Learning only you can do yourself. Good luck.

@jagguyauthorDec 31.2006 — well there is open source ffmpg around and don't worry about getting simple videos to work. It only required simple instructions which I didn't get.
