php-link with another application

Hi all,

I’m trying to create a program that can be configured with a php-based webpage. Basically, this means that php needs to be able to communicate with a completely external running program. I’m thinking of something like the link with MySQL.

I understand that this is pretty complicated, but can any of you talented people give me a hint where to begin?

@chazzyDec 21.2006 — in general, most external communication happens with sockets. you'll need to bind on a client port to the server port and transmit data via that port.
