Just want to verify

Let’s say there are two websites on different domains. Each website contains numerous pages.

Website A better google / alexa ranking than website b.

Now, let’s say the two websites each have pages that are, for search engine spider purposes, pretty much have the same content.

Is there ever a case where this page from website b would be returned first in a search result (assuming no changes in rankings)?
