Serious Career

Hey guys, I’m 15 and I’m really considering a career in web design, I just don’t know how that field works. I am guessing that it’s nothing like a permanent job, and really you work from paycheck to paycheck for each client you work with, but if anybody who does this for a living could give me their insight I would really appreciate it.

@KDLADec 06.2006 — Many companies have their own webmaster; others contract this out to freelance web developers. So, really, you can either work for somebody, or work for yourself.

Although a college degree is necessary to get interviews at some places (whether you're a web designer or not), it's not really important. The best thing to do is to build up a portfolio and a good client base that will recommend you.

Good clients with which to start your web design career:

- private schools

- non-profit organizations/charities

- political candidates

- churches

- community organizations

Most times, these clients aren't too demanding, but have the community visibility to look really good on your resume. ?
