Javascript "Trace" method?

This is a question for some that are more experienced than I concerning JS.

What is the best method to trace the actions of a JS script?
I have pasted temporary ALERT messages helter-skelter, but I still manage to miss where to expect the errors to occur and sometimes end up with an endless loop or some other nasty action.

Is there an easy method to track where you are during the execution of a script?

If not an easy method, what methods do you use when you get clogged in mushware failures (when the mind turns to mush) as opposed to software syntax or logic failures that can be identified with the JS console messages?

@so_is_thisDec 01.2006 — The best method is to employ an interactive script debugger. There is a free one for FF (Venkman) and for IE (if you are a licensed Windows user).
