appedning a url using javascript

basically when my page loads i insert a smart header. each page has an onLoad call to this function

function appendName( str ){
document.location.href += str;
}

and the header is affected by whatever the str variable is”note str is usually a an anchor link such as #management so the browser stays in the same page”

this works great in pc IE but on in mac browsers and the latest mozilla it doesnt work at all. Does anyone have any clue why?

thanks
