Ie Image Sprite Problems

I am doing a rollover effect, currently by switching between two background images, however I want to change it to use a foreground and background image, hide the foreground image on hover so you see the background image. The way it is now can be seen here, [url]http://www.affordable-solar.com/grid.tie.wind.htm[/url]
The way I’m trying to do it locally on our test server is like this(one link example)

a.kit:hover span img{visibility:hidden; display:none;}
a.gridtie{background:url(/images/kit_gridtieb.jpg); position:absolute; left:252px; top:120px; height:271px; width:240px;}

Works great it firefox, but not at all in ie, ie just shows the foreground image all the time. Anyone have a solution for this???

@FangNov 22.2006 — Works in IE7, but not of course in IE6. The easiest way is to swap the background image. Why use background and foreground?

@ripper2020authorNov 22.2006 — I want to use background and foreground just as safety net, that way if they have css disabled or for applications that don't read css, at least one picture will still show up.
