speeding up window.open()

In my experience, IE can be quite slow in opening new browser windows if they are given names (although “_blank” is consistently fast on my machine). Can this be made reliably fast?

The working context is from a page that did not open the popup, so that persistent data is not available from before the open. In particular, prior to the open, no existing window object reference can be presumed available.
