Ajax back button timer… the only way ?

So I read a bunch of articles and explanation of frameworks about back buton and they all use timer to detect whether the addressbar is changed….

I was wondering isn’t there another way? Only with timer ?

1)Like onbeforeunload event of the static pages….?
2) Or to detect whether iframe scr or content or smth is changed… I was thinking about .. theiframe.location.onchage ?? is there smth similar ?

I really dont want to use frameworks.. I want to figure it out on my own with a little bit of help … So can you help me with this ?
