AJAX anyway to pass the variable back?

Is there any technique to pass the variable back from server side page which was called via ajax to the main page without the main page being refreshed??

I will explain it with examples now – to make this more comprehensive:

Let say I have a session variable (using vbs), this varaible is submited to the serverside page, some appending is done and then I want to be able use this session varaible in my main page to make a desicion of what should be done for each client.

It would be an Application variable basiclly, which all users will be able to access. The variable is updating corectly, when I do response.write Applicataion("xxx") the information is shown in the div, but I cannot retrive it (like make an if statement using it) before the main page is refreshed.

Any ideas how can I manage this ?

@A1ien51Nov 15.2006 — If you write it to the page you are making the request too, you should be able to access it with the responseText.
