Getting rid of a target="_blank" in anchor tag

I am using my email program to create an email in HTML. The email includes 4 links to items within the document. After sending the email, 2 of the links work fine. However, 2 of the links have a a target=”_blank” on the anchor tag, which causes a new window to open. This target=”_blank” is not in the code prior to sending the email, but it appears on the recipient’s end when the email is opened. What is causing this to appear, and how do I stop it from appearing, so that my links do not open a new window?

Thank you!
