Safari, CSS and form controls

I am searching for a solution to the following CSS issue in Safari. Could someone verify whether or not Safari in OSX overrides all styles for form controls?

While searching Google for a solution to this issue, all articles or forum entries that I have found indicate that this is true and that it is not possible for the CSS of a site to be used on form controls as the OSX theme overrides styles in Safari.

If this is not true, please direct me to some sort of documentation providing support for a solution. I have an urgent development conflict that needs resolution as soon as possible and would greatly appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

@toicontienNov 06.2006 — In its current incarnation, yes. Safari tends to do its own thing with form controls, however if you download the latest Webkit ("open source safari") you'll see that most of those issues have been resolved:

@jheadyauthorNov 06.2006 — So the answer for the common user, however, is still going to be that form controls will be 'Aqua' themed (or whatever OSX is doing with them), correct? For developers or more savvy users, WebKit sounds like a great solution, however not every standard user is going to know (or care) about fixing their buttons (or adding great features) by using an open source solution. I hate to say something like that because it sounds quite negative and I am an avid open source supporter, but I am just trying to be realistic. Thanks for the help.

@toicontienNov 07.2006 — No problem. The thing about Webkit is that it IS safari. Apple turned its Safari code loose on the open source community and will be using that for all subsequent versions of Safari. But yes. For the average user they've got to put up with the Aqua theme. Have you tried using the BUTTON element for buttons? That might be more flexible: http://www.digital-web.com/articles/push_my_button/
