I am look for a way to code some sort of Java Script function in a HTML page that will point to another URL and do a search on that external URL’s source code to find out if certain words exist with in the source code of this external web page. Then if those words are found it would activate a scrolling banner or popup on my web page for users to see, but if the words are not found then the scrolling banner or popup would not appear.
I want it to automatically do a search for these certain words every 15 minutes on this external URL page.
My situation is we have an alert web page to inform users when one of our server is going to be shutdown or there is a technical problem. I currently have a URL link to the alert page but it requires the users to click on it and most of the users pay no attention to that link and proceed. The alert page has multiple alerts on it for many servers but I am only interested sending a message to my users only about the server that my users use. Someone else is responsible for maintaining the alert page and the developers of the alert page had given me what words I need to search for when they have posted something relevant to the server I use. I just need to figure out how to do an automated search of the source code of that page. Is it possible?
I just need an automated way to inform my users that there is a problem when the users activate my web page.
I can manually view the source code of the alert page use the menu bar edit and use the find command (Ctrl-F) to find out if the words I am looking for are in the source code. There might be a way to Ctrl-F thru a macro in my Java Script, I do not know.
Please help me if anyone know what I am asking to do is possible or not.
