swapping script tag "src" attributes

i want to swap the “src” attribute of one or more scripts in the html header…*and* get IE and other browsers to recognize that switch. Has anyone had any luck with this? I’m not having much luck at all…

@TheBearMayOct 19.2006 — Used to do it ocassionally, by giving the <script> tag an id and using document.getElementById.src="newURL".

@mrhooOct 19.2006 — If you have already loaded the script any global functions and objects will still be in scope unless they are deleted or set to new values in the replacement script.

I prefer to use createElement('script') and append new scripts to the head element, rather than replacing the src of a single script. It is more clear what is happening-

You are adding a new script, not replacing one with another.
