Are there any special coding tricks, tags or requirements for getting your images listed in the yahoo and/or google image search directories. Some of my images are listed and some aren’t.
@MusiGraphicsauthorOct 15.2006 — #I appreciate your response, but still need a little more help b/c if I put in the name of the image, it is no where to be found on the image search. But on another site that I am working on it I put the file name in the search such as
682167_kbc132lgc it pops up and it has no alt tag and the file name is not the same as the image name. Don't understand why on one site most all of the images are showing up and on the other no of them are.
@KDLAOct 15.2006 — #Well, you put a unique file name; of course it's going to show up. But, if you put something like "cat.jpg," I bet your outcome would be different. ?
Google indexes according to
- how many hits your site gets
- the content, as it relates to your keywords or what keywords the searcher uses
- how often you change the content
- how many people link to your site
Google is also horrendously slow in indexing. It takes a minimum of six weeks for it to detect a new site -- and that's if you submit it for a crawl; it takes longer if you neglect to do this. It then looks at your site every few weeks to detect changes.
@_lt_Eddie_gt_Oct 16.2006 — #Miss Moderator has given some good tips on promoting images and it's certainly a lot more hit and miss than organic text listings.
Another tip would be to link directly to the image with descriptive anchor text.
<a href="http://www.website.com/images/tabbycat.jpg">Tabby Cat</a> It's another indicator for search engines to comprehend the content of the image and can only serve to help.
